영화 까라마조프의 형제들은 표도르 까라마조프와 그의 세 아들인 드미트리, 이반, 알료샤 사이에서 벌어지는 갈등을 중심으로 전개됩니다. 표도르는 타락한 부자이자 탐욕스러운 아버지로, 아들들과의 관계는 매우 불안정합니다.

첫째 드미트리는 아버지와 재산 문제로 갈등하고, 둘째 이반은 신의 존재와 도덕에 대해 깊이 회의하며 고뇌합니다. 막내 알료샤는 신앙심이 깊고 가족 간의 화합을 위해 노력합니다. 이 갈등 속에서 표도르는 결국 살해당하고, 드미트리가 살인 용의자로 지목됩니다. 각 인물은 자신만의 방식으로 죄와 책임, 자유에 대한 고민을 하며, 영화는 인간 본성과 도덕적 선택에 대한 깊은 모습을 보여주었습니다.

이반은 "신이 없다면, 모든 것이 허용된다"는 논리를 펼치며 인간이 본질적으로 악한 존재일 수 있다는 생각을 했습니다. 또한 그는 신앙에 회의를 품으며, 인간이 신의 존재 없이도 도덕적으로 행동할 수 있는지에 대한 깊이 생각하는 이반이 철학적이다 라고 생각 했습니다. 영화는 인간이 자유로운 선택을 할 때 책임이 따른다는 말을 전하는것 같았습니다. 드미트리, 이반, 알료샤는 각자 자신의 선택에 따라 행동하며, 그 결과는 가족 전체의 비극을 초래했습니다. 특히 이반은 자신의 선택과 그로 인해 발생한 일들에 대해 도덕적 책임을 느끼지 않지만, 결국 그 책임의 무게에 압도당하게 됩니다. 저는 영화 까라마조프의 형제들 보며 자유로운 선택에는 필연적으로 책임이 따른다는 것과, 인간은 도덕적, 감정적 존재로서 자유를 추구하는 동시에 그 자유로 인해 발생하는 결과를 피할 수 없다는 것을 느꼈습니다. 

두 명의 번역가와의 갈등

도스토예프스키는 이 작품이 국제적으로도 주목받기를 원했지만, 그 과정에서 번역가들과 상당한 갈등을 겪었습니다. 특히 영어 번역가 프레더릭 윌리엄즈와의 의견 충돌은 유명합니다. 도스토예프스키는 자신의 철학적 메시지가 왜곡되지 않기를 원했지만, 번역 과정에서 자주 오해가 발생했고, 그로 인해 긴장이 발생했습니다. 도스토예프스키는 결국 윌리엄즈가 아닌 다른 번역가에게 이 작업을 맡겨야 했습니다. 이 점은 그가 자신의 작품에 얼마나 민감하고 세심했는지를 보여준것 같습니다.

조시마 장로가 알료샤에게 "사랑은 모든 것을 이길 수 있고, 악마와 싸우기 위해서는 증오가 아닌 사랑으로 대응해야 한다".

The film The Brothers Karamazov centers around the conflict between Fyodor Karamazov and his three sons, Dmitry, Ivan, and Alyosha. Fyodor is a corrupt rich man and a greedy father, and his relationship with his sons is very unstable.

The eldest Dmitry struggles with his father over property issues, while the second son Ivan is deeply skeptical about the existence of God and morality. The youngest son Alyosha is deeply religious and strives for harmony within the family. In the midst of this conflict, Fyodor is eventually murdered, and Dmitry is accused of murder. Each character struggles with guilt, responsibility, and freedom in his own way, and the film shows a deep look into human nature and moral choices.

Ivan argues that "if there is no God, everything is permitted," and thinks that humans can be inherently evil. He also thinks that Ivan is philosophical because he is skeptical of faith and thinks deeply about whether humans can act morally without the existence of God. The film raises the question of how humans accept responsibility for their free choices. Dmitry, Ivan, and Alyosha each act according to their own choices, and the results bring about tragedy for the entire family. Ivan, in particular, does not feel moral responsibility for his choices and the events that follow, but he is eventually overwhelmed by the weight of that responsibility. Watching the film The Brothers Karamazov, I felt that free choices inevitably lead to responsibility, and that humans, as moral and emotional beings, pursue freedom while also being unable to avoid the consequences that come with that freedom.

Conflict with two others Dostoevsky wants this creature to be recognized internationally, but in the process, it can endure conflicts in communicating with others. The special English phrase is famous for its conflict with Premium Derrick. Dostoevsky did not distort his strange rumors, but there were often misunderstandings along the way, which caused tension. Dostoevsky eventually told another Yevski, not the replacement, that he had investigated this worker. This shows how sensitive and meticulous he is about his own entity.
